Our Journey
Sytner Group’s story began in 1968 when Frank Sytner and his older brother Alan opened their first used car dealership in Nottingham. Just two years later, they were awarded the BMW franchise, marking the start of a remarkable journey. Frank’s passion for motorsport, which led him to win two British Touring Car Championships in 1988 and 1990 with BMW, seamlessly translated into his drive for business success. By 1993, the group expanded to include a second BMW dealership in Leicester, quickly followed by a third in Sheffield.
Diversification and Growth
The late 1990s were a period of rapid growth and diversification for Sytner Group. By 1997, the portfolio included prestigious marques such as Ferrari, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, and Porsche, with the dealership count surpassing double figures. This impressive growth attracted the attention of Roger Penske, and in 2002, Sytner became part of the Penske Automotive Group (PAG), a move that propelled the company to new heights.

A New Chapter
In January 2025, John Cragg took on the role of CEO of Sytner Group. John’s journey with Sytner began in 1994, and his extensive experience and exceptional people skills have long set the standard for excellence. Before stepping into his current role, John served as Executive Vice President of East Operations at Penske Automotive Group in the United States, where his leadership abilities were widely recognised.
