This technology also enables a boost function, temporarily adding power to the A6 Saloon during driving for a more dynamic performance. 1The progressive MHEV plus system is based on a 48V electrical system and supplements conventional TFSI and TDI engines. The powertrain generator and an additional 48V 1.7kWh lithium ion phosphate battery support are designed to support the combustion engine to enable partially electric driving over short distances (at moderate speeds, in city traffic) for short periods and for slow manoeuvring and parking. The powertrain generator also has a boost function that can temporarily deliver an electrical output of up to 18kW (24 PS) to the combustion engine (when fully charged through energy recuperation) and an additional drive torque of up to 230 Nm, supporting acceleration and agility. As with all MHEV systems, the combustion engine remains the primary power source.
