The Discovery is a car that has evolved gracefully over its many years. The latest Discovery on sale is more shapely than ever but retains that strong, go-anywhere appeal that hints towards its off-road capability. It’s been designed to be integrated with some of the latest engines that JLR has to offer, with hybrid technology integrated to make the Discovery cleaner than ever before.
Some clever new air filtration systems have been included in each Land Rover Discovery’s design. These can monitor the air quality inside the Discovery’s cabin and make sure that any harmful particulates are stopped from coming inside. JLR says that this can help boost the well-being inside the car.
The Discovery has always been a car with a whole lot of presence and the latest version is no different. Each Land Rover Discovery for sale comes with a very distinctive look, but iconic features such as the clamshell bonnet and ‘stepped’ roof - which have been incorporated into the many generations of the Discovery - are all present and correct.
The Discovery has been revised recently, adding in new LED headlights with a more distinctive look and clever ‘sweeping’ front and rear indicators which look particularly good at night. But on all Discovery models, you’re getting the same upright, commanding appearance as well as plenty of eye-catching ‘Discovery’ graphics at front and rear.
The Land Rover Discovery isn’t just about robust off-roading, it also boasts some of the very latest technology. Inside, there’s a full high-definition touchscreen which is where you’ll access all of the car’s main media and navigation functions. It runs JLR’s Pivi Pro system, which provides quick and responsive controls to all of your must-have features.
There’s also a large driver display which can relay high-definition mapping directly to the person behind the wheel, as well as all of the usual information such as speed and fuel levels. You’ll also be able to find a head-up display on some models, which means that you get all of those key features just below your eye line and this helps keep your concentration directly on the road head.
Given it’s a large, heavy-duty car, it’s expected that the Discovery comes with some equally robust engines. Fortunately, that’s just the case. JLR has finessed its Ingenium technology to integrate 48-volt mild-hybrid technology to make efficiency, performance and refinement even better than before.
There’s just a single petrol engine available on the latest Discovery. Known as the P360, it uses a 355bhp 3.0-litre petrol engine that’s able to accelerate this large SUV from 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, Land Rover claims 27.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 232g/km.
But for many, diesel remains a must-have in a large SUV, which is why the Discovery is offered with both fuel choices. The D250 and D300 are both 3.0-litre units with mild-hybrid technology included so that they both offer reliably rugged performance. It’s worth mentioning that the number in each engine’s name relates to its output in PS - the higher the number, the more powerful the engine. All versions use an automatic gearbox and, of course, send their power to all four wheels.
The best fuel economy can be had from the D250, with Land Rover claiming 34.7mpg, while CO2 emissions stand at 214g/km.
