When does my MINI need an MOT and why?
After three years of owning a new MINI vehicle you should book in for an MOT test. Following that, you will be required to book in an MOT every year moving forwards.
The standard inspection of over 150 safety and emissions related systems, including lights, steering, brakes and suspension, ensures your MINI meets legal requirements, as well as helping preserve the driving experience you have come to enjoy.

Taking your MINI for an annual MOT is a necessary part of car ownership, and the only way to ensure service levels to match the premium nature of your car is by taking it to a manufacturer approved service centre. MOT PROTECT
If your first MOT is due, MINI Protect ensure this is done smoothly without hassle. In the unlikely event that your MINI does fail its first MOT test, you will not have to pay out as repairs, replacements, and labour are covered*. If any issues do arise these will be dealt with quickly and efficiently, free of charge allowing your MINI to pass with flying colours.
*MOT Protect cover as part of the MINI tlc package, will rectify any technical issues described hereafter that cause the vehicle to fail its first MOT which will be due no later than 36 months from the date of first registration. MOT Protect cover for the first MOT is covered as part of the Dealer Warranty. MOT Protect is included within the Dealer Warranty for the first MOT. All items will be covered with the exception of the windscreen, wheels, tyres and items replaced as part of routine servicing (e.g. brake disks and pads) modified and/or non MINI components. The cost of the MOT test, re-test and advisories will not be covered neither will failure as a result of neglect or adjustments and damage resulting from impact or accident, or faulty repair of any item be covered. Vehicles used for competitions, racing, pace making, or rallies are excluded. The MOT repair work has to be carried out by a MINI Authorised Dealer / Workshop within 30 days of the MOT inspection failure.The vehicle must have a complete service history according to Manufacturer's criteria. MINI MOT Protect cover is only included in MINI tlc policies purchased from the 1 January 2014.
