The right tyres on the right car
The tyres on your ŠKODA are determined following extensive testing by ŠKODA and tyre makers, so it's imperative to make sure that you fit the right tyres. The wrong tyres can make a huge difference to the characteristics of your car including vehicle handling, stopping distances, road noise and fuel consumption. Tyre Maintenance
You can extend the life of your tyres by doing three simple checks. This will help keep fuel costs down and reduce CO2 emissions. It will also maintain the safety of your ŠKODA ensuring your car can accelerate, corner and brake properly.
Check your tyre pressure
Check your tread depth is not below the legal minimum of 1.6mm.
Inspect your tyres regularly for any cuts, bulges, uneven wear or objects embedded in the tread.
Tyre Pressure
Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is a vital safety feature whenever you’re driving. If your tyres are under-inflated the handling and grip of the vehicle will be affected and may cause unpredictable vehicle behaviour. You will also be at a higher risk of having a blowout, especially if you’re travelling at high speed.
By maintaining the pressure in your tyre you will also prolong the lifespan of them as it will mean they won't wear as quickly. We recommend that you double check your tyre pressure at least once a month, especially before long journeys.

Tyre tread depth – beware of the penalties
The legal minimum tread depth on car tyre in the UK is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre around its entire circumference. It’s not only essential for your safety but also a legal requirement. The penalties for driving on tyres which fail to meet this regulation are huge and can result in fines of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each illegal tyre. That means four bald tyres on your car could see you banned from driving (or less than four if you already have points on your licence).
You can easily check your tyre tread depth yourself with a calibrated depth gauge. The most accurate way to do it is to measure the depth in at least three points around the tyre. If you don't have a calibrated tread depth gauge, an easy way to check your tyres is by using a 20p coin. Simply place the coin into the main tread of the tyre. If the marked rim of the coin doesn't totally disappear, your tyres may be illegal and need changing.

Part worn tyres cost more than just money
If you’re replacing tyres, fitting new tyres is always the safest option. Some providers offer part-worn tyres, however the majority are sold illegally and most concerning, 34% are not roadworthy. Many motorists feel buying part worn tyres can save them money, but its false economy. In fact, per mm of tread, part worn tyres on average work out 19% more expensive and can often be a contributory factor in accidents.
