Emma Ventola, Financial Controller, answers our Women in Business questions.
How long have you worked for Sytner BMW/MINI? I joined Sytner in January 2018, I have worked in Lexus, Audi, VW and BMW divisions
How long have you been in your current role? 16 months
What is your favourite part about your current role? Assisting the sites with a multitude of tasks and helping with training and process improvement
What motivates you in the morning? I really enjoy my role, so I an naturally motivated to work each day
Three words to describe yourself? Professional – Helpful - Hardworking
What is your greatest achievement? Achieving my ACCA qualification whilst working full time and bringing up my son
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to be in your role? Strive to be the best in the current role you have. Always look for opportunities to learn and widen your knowledge base. Apply for roles that you aspire to, but don’t be afraid of rejection. Applying for roles will demonstrate your desire to progress and give an opportunity for the interviewees to get to know you, for future roles.
How have you seen the Automotive industry landscape change and evolve to engage more women? I joined the industry straight from school many years ago. The industry was then a very male dominated world. Over the years women have become accepted as equal in the workplace, achieving senior roles.
Top tip for how you organise your days? I set myself Outlook reminders for tasks that require completing, then I know exactly what is required each day. I don’t have to try and remember everything I need to do so it is stress free. Also, I prioritise the important tasks to be completed first, in case of ad-hoc tasks I may need to carry out.
Top tip for working in the automotive industry? Retain a professional, hardworking work ethic along with integrity and honesty
