Explore the next generation innovation
THE BATTERY SYSTEM
The new generation of Volkswagen electric cars features a groundbreaking battery system integrated into the car’s modular construction (MEB). The ID. Family’s newly developed modular electric drive matrix (MEB) has been specifically designed for electric vehicles. The heart of the system is a fast-charging battery system consisting of different numbers of battery modules, depending on the desired range. Each of these modules contains 12 lithium-ion battery cells. The cells utilised in the MEB have a “pouch cell” design. They consist of multiple stacked or folded active layers enclosed by a flexible outer film. This makes pouch cells highly flexible in terms of their shape and optimally adaptable to the specific requirements. In addition, their smooth surface also provides high heat dissipation.
THE PERFECT SOUND
Although Volkswagens electric cars are virtually silent, they need to make some noise to protect other road users and pedestrians. An electric vehicle can be defined by its sound, a sound that should be both confident and likeable. The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) sounds when starting up, at speeds up to 30 km/h and when reversing, and can be heard both inside and outside. Created in collaboration with the composer and music producer, Leslie Mandoki, who succeeded in expressing the unique dynamics of electric mobility with multi-layered sound tracks, the new ID. Sound emphasises its visionary identity.
ULTIMATE CLIMATE CONTROL
Using the We Connect app, you can pre-heat your car so that the interior temperature is just right during your journey. This can also begin when you unlock the drivers door or get into the car. If you only want air conditioning in the drivers area, we've got you covered with personalised air conditioning. Regardless of where you're sitting you can get in and enjoy the comfort.
ELECTRIC DRIVING MODES
Volkswagen electric cars offer three driving modes, Normal, ECO, and ECO+. Normal Mode gives you full use of climate control systems. It brings down the overall range of the car but is perfect for very hot or cold days. ECO Mode directs less power towards the climate control systems. It’s the ideal setting if you only need to slightly alter the climate in the cabin. ECO+ Mode diverts all power to the electric motor to maximise your car’s range.
